The game
Crimson Moon is an upcoming action RPG from ProbablyMonsters, tagged Souls-like, Roguelike, and Hack and Slash on Steam. You play a Nephilim fighting through Gildenarch, a city that fell to demons and undead before the game begins. Runs launch from a sanctuary hub called Sanctus Clypeus, combat is melee-focused, and difficulty adjusts dynamically. If you're looking for a turn-based or strategy game with a similar name, this isn't it — Crimson Moon is a real-time action game.
Release and price
Crimson Moon is planned to release on September 1, 2026, priced at $19.99 USD for the Standard Edition. It is not on sale, not free, and not currently purchasable — Steam only offers a wishlist button ahead of launch. See release date and price and demo for the full detail.
Playing it
Crimson Moon supports both single-player and online co-op, with Full Controller Support and Gamepad Recommended listed for Steam. Supported languages listed on the store page include English, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Simplified Chinese. Mod support is not mentioned anywhere in official materials as of this check. For the multiplayer detail, see gameplay preview; for platforms, see platforms.
Hardware
Minimum spec asks for a GTX 1070/RX 5700-class GPU and 16GB RAM; recommended jumps to an RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT-class GPU and 32GB RAM. No Steam Deck compatibility rating exists yet. Full breakdown: system requirements.
What players are asking on Steam
These are questions raised in the game's own Steam discussion forum. Most have no official answer yet, and saying so is the accurate response.
Is there PvP?
No official answer, and nothing points toward one. The store page lists single-player and online co-op as the only modes, and no official material describes players fighting each other.
Can you dual wield?
No official answer. The build breakdown names nine equippable slots — four armour, two trinkets, a one-handed weapon paired with a shield, and a two-handed weapon. A second one-handed weapon in place of the shield is not among the configurations the developer has described.
Does difficulty change the rewards?
Yes, this one is officially answered: higher difficulty levels increase the rarity of loot that drops.
Is gear premade or randomly generated?
Not stated. The developer has explained where gear comes from — exploration, elites, bosses, and missions — and that Purify makes a found piece permanent, but has not said whether individual pieces roll their own stats.
Is it a campaign or endless runs?
Partly answered. A run is built around a Ward and ends at that Ward's boss, and progression carries across runs through purified gear. Whether those runs sit inside a finite story campaign has not been spelled out.
Is there character creation, and can you pick a gender?
No official answer. You play a Nephilim, but the developer has not published whether appearance or gender is player-chosen.
Will there be a transmog or appearance system?
No official answer. Gajov upgrades gear rarity and Lotte sells consumables, but no cosmetic-override system has been named.
Other things with no official answer
- Console release timing — the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are confirmed and already have live store pages, but no console date has been given and launch-day parity with the September 1 PC release has not been confirmed. Switch has never been mentioned. See platforms.
- Demo — not confirmed as of this check.
- Preorder bonuses — no preorder is open yet, so there's nothing to have bonuses attached to.
- Whether the September 1, 2026 date holds — it's the currently published date, not a guarantee.
Each of these gets a real "no official answer" rather than a guess — that is the accurate response until ProbablyMonsters says otherwise.
